First stop: Octavia Books in NOLA!
It is happening. We are in the car on our way to New Orleans, Louisiana.
I love that we are starting the tour in Louisiana. It’s a little like visiting a favorite family member you haven’t seen in a while. I grew up just outside of New Orleans from age kindergarten to third grade. I remember riding on the Steamboat Natchez with my girl scout troop, boating on the Pontchartrain, and—my absolute favorite thing as a kid—Fudge Time at Jackson Brewery.
Every field trip included a trip in a yellow bus to New Orleans. We went to the Audubon Zoo, the Louisiana Children’s Museum, and the parks where we’d eat our sack lunch. (As an adult, I have yet to find a meal that tastes as good as a school-issued bologna sandwich with real mayo and white bread that sticks to the roof of your mouth.)
I was lucky enough to live in a lot of interesting places (like Ross in EXIT STRATEGY, we were serial movers), but I remember my time in Louisiana as one of my favorites—even with all the fire ants.
