Writes books. Will travel.

One of my favorite things about being an author is getting to chat with readers! I’d love to come to your school. I’m happy to speak about being an author, the writing process, or teach one of the classes listed here. Don’t see the topic you’d like? Just shoot me an email and ask about it—I’ll see if I can make it happen!

Write Now

The art of getting started. Getting that story on paper is not an easy task. In your head, the idea is sparkly and perfect, but putting it on paper is a different story. (First drafts notoriously ugly!) We’ll talk about coming up with ideas, organizing the writing, and the parts every good story must have.

Story Editing

Writing well doesn’t matter nearly as much as revising well! We’ll discuss strategies to make your writing more effective. We’ll learn tools to analyze your draft on every level (from the whole story down to paragraphs, sentences, and words) and finish with a proof-reading checklist that includes grammar, mechanics, spelling.

Reading Round Table

Question: You know all that stuff we learn in Language Arts? Do author’s use that on purpose? Answer: Yes! Yes, they do!

Using a round table format, we’ll analyze my novel EXIT STRATEGY and discuss story elements such as story structures, themes, main ideas, inferences, characters, points of view, and word choices. After taking apart the features, we’ll consider how they work together to create a story. This lesson is best for individual classes and is designed to help with reading comprehension!
